Free Games and Spaceships! Stargate Style

My wife loves Stargate SG 1. In the ongoing attempt to convince her to play wargames with me, I'm going to print up Stargate Fleet Command, an interesting looking space combat game that is a free download here. Looks pretty cool, though I have not had a long look at it. I don't really play any space combat games, I tend more towards squad based skirmish style games, but I think that might be just the ticket, I don't have an advantage, we would have to learn together.

The game comes with sheets of cut-out counters that you can use to represent ships, but I figured since my wife also loves LEGO, she could build some mini ships like this guy posted.
I hope this works out! So far, as I mentioned earlier, she stays only peripherally involved in my wargaming. Stuff like asking me what each type of unit does, helping pick paint schemes, telling me which models I should use because they are cooler looking.

Ah, Starfleet and SFB are not easy starter games. They're full of wonk and mathhammer, as well as what I call 'weasel tricks' - innate flaws that only knowledgeable players know about.

You might try Sudden Death, which is a BLAST and easy to learn.

Hmmm, is this game based off of Starfleet of SFB? I think this might be different, I have looked at it a bit and it did not seem too bad. I knew a few people who played those other games, and they all seemed like guys I wouldn't want to game with.

Will try to find this Sudden Death of which you speak. Is it related to Silent Death?

Duh, Silent Death. That's what I get for posting during a bout of insomnia- memory fail.

It might be a different game- but if it's the one I'm thinking of it's not a great starter. Good luck either way with getting your wife involved. I love gaming with The Dude.
